About the Producers
Finca El Alisal traces its origins back to 1965, when the family’s grandparents planted the first coffee trees on the slopes of Quilanga. In 2017, the new generation led by Leonidas Jaramillo decided to transform this heritage by integrating scientific knowledge, modern agricultural practices and a long-term vision centered on specialty coffee. The project honors the legacy of previous generations while redefining it through sustainability, innovation and a deep respect for the land. What began as a traditional family farm has become a space where research, experimentation and craftsmanship coexist to express the true potential of the region’s terroir.

Varieties & Innovation
The farm cultivates a diverse selection of high-value varieties including Typica Mejorado, Sidra, Geisha, Batian, Catucaí and Typica Nacional. These varieties grow within a carefully managed agroforestry system that protects soil health, biodiversity and the microclimate essential for quality. El Alisal continuously experiments with controlled fermentations to understand how each variety expresses its optimal sensory profile. Scientific observation, precise processing and respect for the genetic character of each plant guide the farm’s innovation.
Challenges & Climate Adaptation
In recent years, climate change has demanded resilience and adaptation. The farm has strengthened its agroforestry structure, improved soil conservation practices and optimized shade and water management. These measures increase the ecosystem’s stability and protect the long-term quality of the coffee. Through constant monitoring and environmentally responsible decisions, El Alisal ensures that its production remains sustainable despite shifting climatic conditions.

Social & Community Impact
El Alisal plays a meaningful role in the local community by generating stable employment for families and young people in Fundochamba. The farm prioritizes fair working conditions and ongoing training, offering an environment where skills and knowledge can be shared and expanded. Over time, the farm has become a reference point for producers in Quilanga who seek guidance, inspiration and technical support. Its impact extends beyond production, contributing to a stronger and more collaborative coffee culture in the region.
What Makes Their Coffee Unique
Coffee from El Alisal is distinguished by its natural elegance, balance and clarity in the cup. These attributes arise from the synergy between a rich agroforestry ecosystem, careful soil management and processing methods tailored to each variety. Washed, honey and natural processes are applied with precision according to the characteristics of each lot, ensuring that sweetness, cleanliness and varietal expression remain at the forefront. The result is coffee that reflects both the identity of the land and the dedication invested in every step of production.
Vision
The long-term vision for Finca El Alisal is to become a Latin American benchmark for traceable, sustainable and identity-driven coffees. The farm seeks to combine meaningful production volume with an artisanal, science-based approach that preserves quality above all else. Its achievements, such as placing within the Top 10 of Taza de Excelencia and the Top 5 of Taza Dorada, reinforce this commitment and serve as motivation to continue advancing. El Alisal strives to demonstrate that Ecuador can produce world-class coffees rooted in origin, transparency and purpose.
