Discover the Coffee Gang: Finca Maputo and their Fictional Tour

Can you imagine a band made up of coffee beans?
We did. And we had a ton of fun creating it. We teamed up with the creative geniuses at Luna Lunares to bring you a unique experience: imagining what the identity of a coffee-producing farm would be like if it were a band. And that's how Finca Maputo was born (or, the band, because the farm already existed. In fact, they created these amazing coffees). We took photos of these fictional musicians, composed a songbook with songs that don't exist (yet), and invented an entire band. What rock band would be complete without their own merch? So we launched T-shirts, a songbook, stickers, tour mugs, and even tote bags! But best of all, we designed a special line of three unique coffees that represent each member of this incredible band.

The Three Members of Finca Maputo:
Washed SL-28: This is our main guitarist, with tasting notes of chocolate milk, orange chiffon, cashew, and almond butter. It has a super strong and distinct personality that shines on any stage (or in any cup). Its washed process gives it that clarity and brilliance that stands out in any environment.
Typica Mejorado Honey: Here we have the bassist, with a sweet and honeyed profile that will make you feel every note in your soul. Its tasting notes include blackberry jam, candied fig, and tamarind. This character is the romantic of the group, with a complexity and smoothness that is pure music to your senses. Although it is a sister of the Typico Mejorado Lavado, its differences are as notable as its similarities.
Typica Mejorado Lavado: And the drummer couldn't be missing, with a rhythm that blends tradition and innovation. Its tasting notes are orange marmalade, cocoa, and stone fruit. It shares the same genetics as its honey brother, but its personality is more serious and acidic. Its balanced and clean profile is the perfect base for any blend.
Each of these coffees represents the essence of a fictional musician from the band Finca Maputo. We spoke with our friends at Luna Lunares about the unique characteristics of each coffee, from tasting notes to their unique profiles, and they created these brilliant characters.
The Coffee Tour
These three coffees, which have been released gradually in super-limited editions, are like collectible vinyl records. They are micro-lots, small gems that represent the hard work and artistry behind specialty coffee production.
We want you to see coffee not just as a beverage, but as a work of art, an artisanal process where each bean tells a different story. With this campaign, we're not only seeking to attract coffee fans but also reach an audience outside the coffee industry. We want everyone to fall in love with the rigorous and personalized process that is the world of specialty coffee. So join us on this fictional tour and discover the unique flavors of Finca Maputo. FAQ
You've probably had a few questions while reading this article. Let's answer some of them. What is the difference between a Honey Improved Typica and a Washed Improved Typica?
Typica Mejorado is a coffee variety. It's like talking about wine and grapes: you have Merlot, Malbec, and Cabernet Sauvignon, which are different strains. Well, coffee also has different varieties. Honey and washing are the processes by which these coffees are fermented. Honey is a process in which the skin and pulp are removed from the fruit, but some of the pulp remains attached to the seed. When dried, this pulp turns into a kind of molasses, hence its name. This gives the coffee a fruity finish. On the other hand, the washed process involves depulping the seed and then washing it with water to remove all traces of fruit, which makes the coffee profile cleaner. Thus, from the same coffee variety, we obtain two completely different profiles.
What is the SL-28?
SL-28 is another coffee variety, known for its unique and complex flavor profiles.
How many processes are there?
There is increasing experimentation and new processes are being created, but the three most well-known and traditional ones are honey, washed, and natural.
